The China Media Group (CMG) has announced the release of ten self-developed technology applications aimed at enhancing coverage of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.
For the first time, CMG will present programs that cover the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as various sporting events, utilizing 4K ultra-high-definition and 3D audio effect technologies. To facilitate this, a media center and three television studios have been established at the International Broadcast Center (IBC), alongside a location shooting site at the Eiffel Tower.
Making its European debut, CMG's 8K broadcast vehicles will transmit 8K international public signals during the Olympics. These vehicles are equipped with domestically-manufactured 8K channel cameras, portable broadcast cameras, monitors, and IP switches.
CMG is leveraging its media cloud and network to build a robust system with massive computing power and low latency, supporting program production for both television and digital platforms. This infrastructure allows the team to collaborate seamlessly through the media cloud, enhancing both the quality and efficiency of production efforts.
Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a pivotal role in CMG's media cloud, assisting with transcription, translation, dubbing, video editing, and analysis. AI technology is also being used to create avatars of guests participating in programs from studios in Beijing and Paris.
Furthermore, AI will aid in filming and public signal production for multiple events, including badminton, sport climbing, and artistic gymnastics. This technology enables the creation of more viewing angles to showcase athletes' performances and accurately capture competition highlights.
CMG's comprehensive coverage initiative, \"Bai Cheng Qian Ping\" (\"100 cities, 1,000 screens\"), will offer customized reports on the Paris 2024 Olympics to audiences across different regions of China, tailored to their preferences and geographical characteristics.
The digital platform Yangshipin has been updated for the Paris 2024 Olympics, featuring an enhanced AI function that allows users to interact through text and voice. The app provides real-time news, including medal tables and competition results. Additionally, HarmonyOS versions of Yangshipin and CMG Sports have been released, offering improved security, stability, and compatibility. The interaction between Yangshipin and TV has been enhanced, allowing audiences to access high-quality videos and enjoy 3D audio effects during programs.
