Chinese Sprinter Xie Zhenye Shines with Season-Best at Pre-Olympics

Chinese sprinter Xie Zhenye delivered an impressive performance in a pre-Olympic 100-meter race held in Italy on July 13 and 14, clocking a season-best time of 10.05 seconds.

The competition comprised preliminary heats on July 13, followed by semifinals and the final on July 14. Xie made a strong start in the preliminaries, advancing to the semifinals with a time of 10.08 seconds. In the final, he finished with a time of 10.09 seconds, securing the second-best time behind Marcell Jacobs of Italy, who ran 10.08 seconds.

Andre De Grasse of Canada rounded out the podium, finishing third with a time of 10.11 seconds. De Grasse is well-known as the bronze medalist from the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

At 31 years old, Xie has already qualified for both the men's 200-meter and the men's 4×100-meter relay events at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. His recent achievements include winning gold medals in the men's 100-meter and the men's 4×100-meter relay at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in 2023. Additionally, at the Tokyo Olympics, Xie, alongside Su Bingtian, Tang Xingqiang, and Wu Zhiqiang, secured the bronze medal in the men's 4×100-meter relay after Team Great Britain was disqualified due to a doping violation.
