Andre De Grasse of Canada, the 2021 Tokyo Olympics men's 200-meter gold medalist, is gearing up to defend his title at the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris. De Grasse is determined to honor his legacy on the global stage.
\"Yeah, another Olympic medal to me would, I think, could cement my legacy,\" De Grasse shared. \"You know having already six Olympic medals, if I can, you know, turn that to seven, eight or nine, that would be amazing.\"
De Grasse made his Olympic debut in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, where he secured a silver in the men's 200-meter event and two bronzes in the men's 100-meter and the men's 4×100-meter relay events.
At the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, he competed in the same three events, adding a gold in the 200-meter, a silver in the 4×100-meter relay, and a bronze in the 100-meter to his collection.
\"I don't think any, yeah, no Canadian has ever done that before, so I feel like that would be an awesome, awesome feat for me,\" De Grasse said. \"Even just to be in good company with other sprinters across the world. So, I mean, yeah, I'm just going to have some fun with it. Enjoy the moment. I'm not going to put too much pressure on myself to make that happen, but obviously that's the goal. That's the mission at hand.\"
Canada's achievements at the Tokyo Olympic Games include seven golds, seven silvers, and ten bronzes.
