Zhang Zhilei Eyes Grand Home Fight After Defeating Wilder

In a stunning display of power and strategy, Chinese heavyweight boxer Zhang Zhilei recently secured the biggest win of his career by knocking out former WBC world champion Deontay Wilder in the fifth round during their showdown in Riyadh. Speaking with CGTN Sports Scene for an episode of Talk Sports, the 41-year-old shared his aspirations to bring top-tier boxing matches to the Chinese mainland.

\"Our team has been working on that. We want to hold a top-level fight in China, so that Chinese boxing fans can enjoy it on home soil. China now has many boxing enthusiasts, and millions of people stayed up to watch the fight between Wilder and me online, so I know they are looking forward to a grand fight being held in China,\" Zhang expressed.

Reflecting on his victory, Zhang highlighted the importance of utilizing both hands effectively to control Wilder, whose right hand is notoriously powerful and has caused many fighters, including Tyson Fury, significant damage in past bouts. Zhang emphasized his ability to limit Wilder's offensive opportunities by maintaining a balanced and strategic approach in the ring.

Looking ahead, Zhang is considering several high-profile opponents for his next fight. With Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk set for a rematch in December, Zhang is eyeing contenders such as Joseph Parker, with whom he has already discussed terms, Anthony Joshua, and Agit Kabayel. \"I have many opponents to consider, and I am okay with any of them,\" he stated.

Zhang Zhilei's ambition to host major fights on the Chinese mainland not only aims to elevate his career but also to cater to the growing base of boxing fans in the region, promising an exciting future for the sport in China.
