Wimbledon is making history with a record 11 Chinese players set to compete in the singles events starting on July 1 at the prestigious All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London.
Among the competitors, Zhang Zhizhen stands out as the first male seeded player from China at Wimbledon, holding the No. 32 seed. He is set to face France's Maxime Janvier, a qualifier who has earned his spot through a rigorous qualifying tournament.
Joining Zhang is Shang Juncheng, another promising male player from China. Shang will compete against Cristian Garin of Chile, another qualifier making his mark in the men's singles event.
On the women's side, Zheng Qinwen holds the No. 8 seed, making her the lone female Chinese seeded player in the tournament. Zheng will take on Lulu Sun from New Zealand in the first round, aiming to replicate her impressive run to the third round at Wimbledon in 2022.
This milestone participation underscores China's growing presence in the world of tennis, highlighting the nation's commitment to nurturing talent and achieving excellence on the global stage.
