The Chinese mainland is set to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris with a strong tennis squad. Announced on Friday by the Chinese Tennis Association, seven players will represent China in the upcoming event.
The women's team will feature Wang Xinyu, Wang Xiyu, Zhang Shuai, Zheng Qinwen, Zheng Saisai, and Yuan Yue. Leading the group, Zheng Qinwen stands at eighth in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) world rankings, the highest-ranked player among the six. Zheng Qinwen showcased her skills by reaching the fourth round at the French Open on the clay courts of Roland Garros in 2022.
Zhang Zhizhen will be China's sole representative in the men's events. Zhang made history as the first male player from China to secure a seed at Wimbledon and advanced to the third round at the French Open both this year and last year.
