The Chinese sailing team is making a significant push towards the Paris 2024 Olympics as they compete in the National Windsurfing Championship held in Jinzhou, northeast the Chinese mainland's Liaoning Province. This event serves as their final preparatory stage before the upcoming Olympic Games.
Since December, the sailors have been on an impressive winning streak, clinching victories in five events at the Asian Sailing Championship, securing five Olympic spots. Their momentum continued with four additional placements at the Hague World Championships and the Hangzhou Asian Games last year, culminating in a record nine Olympic qualifications for Paris—the highest the team has achieved, second only to their performance at the Beijing 2008 Games.
After a commendable performance in Tokyo three years ago, where they won one gold and a silver, team leader Zhang Xiguang is setting his sights higher for France.
\"Our training results have been extremely promising. The wind conditions in Jinzhou are ideal, and our team arrived early at the competition site to align with the national team's training schedule. Our daily training sessions mirror the intensity of the actual competition, creating an atmosphere that's conducive to peak performance,\" Zhang said.
