Dan Hurley Turns Down $70M Lakers Offer to Stay with UConn

In a bold decision, Dan Hurley has declined a six-year, $70 million offer from the Los Angeles Lakers to remain as the head coach of the University of Connecticut Huskies. This move keeps Hurley focused on leading UConn towards a third consecutive National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship, according to a recent report by ESPN.

Hurley expressed his gratitude and commitment in a statement released by UConn, saying, \"I am humbled by this entire experience. At the end of the day, I am extremely proud of the championship culture we have built at Connecticut. We met as a team before today's workout, and our focus right now is getting better this summer, and connecting as a team as we continue to pursue championships.\"

Since signing a six-year, $32.1 million contract with UConn in 2023, Hurley has led the Huskies to an impressive 68-11 record. Under his leadership, UConn made history by defending the NCAA title for the first time, defeating the Purdue Boilermakers 75-60 in the tournament’s final last April.

Hurley’s decision underscores his dedication to the program and his belief in the team’s potential to achieve even greater success in the coming seasons.
