Udinese Parts Ways with Fabio Cannavaro After Narrow Relegation Escape

In a surprising move, Udinese has announced the departure of coach Fabio Cannavaro, effective next season. Despite Cannavaro's pivotal role in steering the team away from relegation, the club has decided to pursue a different direction in leadership.

Udinese Calcio stated, \"Udinese Calcio can confirm that Fabio Cannavaro will not continue as the head coach of the first team next season. We would like to thank Fabio and his backroom team for their professionalism and help in securing Udinese's top-flight status. We wish him and his assistants the very best for their future endeavors.\"

Cannavaro's tenure with Udinese was brief, lasting less than two months since his appointment in late April. During his time, the team played six Serie A matches, remaining undefeated in the final five and achieving two of their six wins for the entire 2023-24 season. A crucial 1-0 victory against Frosinone on the last day ensured Udinese's survival in Serie A.

Despite these accomplishments, club president Giampolo Pozzo informed Cannavaro that his contract would not be renewed. The 50-year-old Italian expressed his disappointment, stating his desire to continue in the role, but ultimately, Pozzo's decision was final.
