Lakers Pursuing UConn’s Dan Hurley as New Head Coach

The Los Angeles Lakers are actively seeking a new head coach following their recent playoff exit. According to The Athletic, the team has reached out to Dan Hurley, the successful head coach of the University of Connecticut Huskies.

Hurley has been leading UConn since March 2018, securing back-to-back NCAA Division I Tournament titles in 2023 and 2024. His impressive track record has caught the attention of the Lakers, who fired Darvin Ham after a 4-1 series loss to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

The Lakers are considering several candidates for the head coach position, including ESPN broadcaster JJ Reddick and New Orleans Pelicans associate head coach James Borrego. Hurley's current contract with UConn, signed last year, is a six-year deal worth $32.1 million, which includes two buyout clauses. If Hurley leaves for another college head-coaching job, the buyout is $7.5 million, and for an NBA head-coaching position, it drops to $1.875 million.

The Lakers' search for a new head coach highlights their commitment to strengthening the team's leadership as they aim for success in the upcoming season.
