China Earns 1-1 Draw with Thailand in Thrilling World Cup Qualifier

In an intense 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier held in Shenyang, China managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Thailand, thanks to a late equalizer by debutant Behram Abduweli.

The match saw Thailand take an early lead in the 20th minute when Supachok Sarachat headed in a cross from Supachai Chaided. China responded swiftly, nearly equalizing just two minutes later when A Lan's strike hit the post and Fei Nanduo's follow-up was saved by Thailand's goalkeeper.

Coach Branko Ivankovic made a strategic substitution in the 28th minute, introducing the 21-year-old Behram in place of Gao Tianyi. Thailand continued to press, firing 10 shots and hitting the woodwork twice before halftime.

Despite missing a penalty in the second half after a handball by Kritsada Kaman, China remained resilient. The breakthrough came in the 79th minute when Behram volleyed a headed pass from Zhu Chenjie following a free kick from Xie Pengfei, leveling the score.

China pushed for a winner in the final minutes but couldn't find the back of the net. Ivankovic reflected on the match, praising the young players and emphasizing the need for patience in organizing the offense.

Meanwhile, South Korea dominated Singapore with a 7-0 victory, securing their place as group leaders in Group C. China faces South Korea next Tuesday, needing at least one point to advance to the final stage of Asian qualifying.

Looking ahead, Thailand will host Singapore in their last group match. Ivankovic remains optimistic, stating, \"For us the qualifying tournament isn't over yet. We will go all out in the next match and try to qualify for the next round.\"
