Rain put a dampener on the third day of the French Open, but defending champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia avoided getting bogged down in his quest for a professional era record-extending 25th Grand Slam title, getting off to a solid start on Tuesday.
In a business-like rather than spectacular performance on Court Philippe Chatrier, Djokovic kept the momentum going. Meanwhile, Norway's Casper Ruud and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka provided bright spots on the grey Parisian day with impressive first-round wins. Denmark's 13th seed, Holger Rune, also brought his usual flair to the court, seeing off Britain's Dan Evans in straight sets.
