In an emotional farewell, French tennis star Alize Cornet bowed out of her final Grand Slam at Roland Garros after a swift defeat to the Chinese mainland’s Zheng Qinwen.
Cornet, granted a wild card for her record-breaking 69th consecutive Grand Slam main draw entry, faced a first-round loss with scores of 6-2, 6-1, concluding her storied career.
Over nearly two decades on the WTA tour, Cornet achieved a career-high singles ranking of No. 11 in February 2009 and secured six singles and three doubles titles.
Her retirement was honored with a post-match ceremony on the court, attended by Gilles Moretton, president of the French Tennis Federation, and tournament director Amélie Mauresmo, celebrating her enduring legacy in the sport.
