Bill Walton, a two-time National Basketball Association (NBA) champion and member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, passed away on Monday at the age of 71, the NBA announced.
Known for his brilliant play but also impacted by injuries, Walton transitioned into a vibrant career as a broadcaster after his time on the court.
Walton had a prolonged battle with cancer and was surrounded by his family when he passed.
\"Bill Walton was truly one of a kind,\" NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement, recalling his many accomplishments on the court and his \"insightful and colorful commentary\" as a broadcaster. \"But what I will remember most about him was his zest for life.\"
