Chinese swimmer Wang Shun is intensifying his preparations for the upcoming Olympics in Paris, setting his sights on repeating his gold medal performance from the Tokyo Games three years ago.
At 30 years old, Wang is competing in his fourth Olympic Games. His journey has seen a steady climb: finishing 22nd in London 2012, earning a bronze in Rio 2016, and culminating in a gold medal victory in Tokyo 2020. This progression marks him as one of the standout athletes from the Chinese mainland.
Wang's commitment was further demonstrated at last year's Hangzhou Asian Games, where he secured four gold medals. Notably, he improved his 200-meter individual medley time to 1 minute 54.62 seconds, 0.38 seconds faster than his Tokyo performance.
\"Now, I have a deeper understanding of the 200-meter individual medley event, compared to the Tokyo Games,\" said Wang. \"I can make prompt adjustments based on different swimming strokes. In the winter, I did some intensive training, trying to simulate the real competition environment, and I got a better sense of speed in the pool.\"
He added, \"I will continue to work hard and get ready for the possible difficulties. I believe I can handle those challenges in the future.\"
As the Paris Olympics approach, Wang Shun remains focused on defending his title and achieving new heights in his illustrious swimming career.
