Chinese Shuttlers Secure Semifinal Spots at Malaysia Masters

The 2024 Malaysia Masters badminton tournament saw impressive performances from the Chinese team during the quarterfinals, securing spots in three key events.

In the men's singles, Lu Guangzu of China triumphed over Jason Gunawan of Hong Kong, China with scores of 21-17, 15-21, 21-14 after a fierce one-hour and 24-minute battle. Lu is set to face top seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in the semifinals, while NG Ka Long Angus from Hong Kong, China will compete against Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia.

The women's singles has an all-Chinese semifinal lineup after Wang Zhiyi defeated her teammate Gao Fangjie, and Zhang Yiman overcame India's Ashmita Chaliha. The other semifinal will feature India's Pusarla V. Sindhu against Thailand's Busanan Ongbamrungphan.

In men's doubles, the third-seeded Chinese pair He Jiting and Ren Xiangyu advanced by defeating their Malaysian opponents, setting up a semifinal clash with South Korea's Jin Yong and Na Sung-seung. Meanwhile, the second-seeded Danish duo Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen will face Malaysian pair Junaidi Arif and Roy King Yap.

The women's doubles semifinals will see Japanese pair Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi take on Bulgaria's Gabriela Stoeva and Stefani Stoeva, while South Korea's Lee Yu-lim and Shin Seung-chan will compete against Malaysia's Tan Pearly and Thinaah Muralitharan.

Saturday's mixed doubles semifinals feature Malaysia's top seeds Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei against their teammates Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jemie, and Indonesia's Rinov Rivaldy and Pitha Haningtyas will face Denmark's Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje.

The Malaysia Masters is scheduled to run from May 21 to 26, promising exciting matches and high-level competition in the weeks to come.
