Germany’s Euro 2024 Squad: Hummels and Goretzka Excluded

The German Football Association (DFB) has unveiled its preliminary 27-player squad for the UEFA European Championship 2024, set to be hosted at home. Notably absent from the list are Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels and Bayern Munich's Leon Goretzka.

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann has emphasized a strategic approach to the team's composition, particularly in the goalkeeper position. The squad includes four goalkeepers: Alexander Nubel of VfB Stuttgart, seasoned Manuel Neuer of Bayern Munich, Oliver Baumann of TSG Hoffenheim, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen of Barcelona.

Speaking about the decision, Nagelsmann stated, \"We have nominated four goalkeepers and we will go with four to the tournament. Nubel has deserved the nomination. Why four keepers? You can have goalkeepers in training as well and Manuel [Neuer] does not always have to do it. We can control training and spread the load.\"

He further added, \"That means 22 infield players. I can live with that very well. We can still do proper training with at least 20 infield players if some are missing.\" This strategic selection aims to balance experience and fresh talent as Germany prepares to compete on the European stage.
