John Reniewicki Breaks 40-Year Drake Relays 1,500m Record

In a spectacular display of speed and endurance, American athlete John Reniewicki, along with three other runners, shattered a 40-year-old record in the men’s 1,500 meters at the 114th Drake Relays this Saturday. Held annually in Des Moines, Iowa, the Drake Relays is one of the most prestigious track and field events in the United States.

Reniewicki clinched the top spot with an impressive time of 3:36.44, smashing the previous record of 3:38.27 set by Steve Scott back in 1984. Close on his heels was Vince Ciatti, who finished just 0.13 seconds behind with a time of 3:36.57. The race also saw Abe Alvarado clocking in at 3:37.56 and Kenya’s Justine Kipkoech at 3:37.78, both surpassing Scott’s longstanding record.
