The 2024 Badminton Asia Championships in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, concluded on Sunday with China securing three gold medals, alongside three silvers and seven bronzes.
In a thrilling all-Chinese women's singles final, Wang Zhiyi triumphed over Olympic champion Chen Yufei. Despite a strong start by Chen, Wang dominated the second set 21-7, claiming her second Asia title and breaking her eight-match losing streak against the second-seeded Chen.
\"It's not easy. I just got my first win against Chen, which gives me a lot of confidence,\" said the 23-year-old Wang.
On the men's side, home favorites Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang clinched their first Asian title after a hard-fought match against Malaysia's Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin, winning 21-17, 15-21, 21-10.
The mixed doubles saw China's Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping secure another title with a comeback victory against South Korea's world champions Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yu-jung, winning 13-21, 21-15, 21-14.
While China dominated several categories, the men's singles title was awarded to Indonesia's Jonatan Christie, who defeated China's Li Shifeng. Additionally, South Korea's Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee took home the women's doubles title by overcoming China's Zhang Shuxian and Zheng Yu.
