In a remarkable display of strength and determination, Chinese weightlifter Wang Zhouyu secured three silver medals in the women’s 81 kg category at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Cup held in Phuket on Tuesday. Wang successfully lifted 120 kg in the snatch, 147 kg in the clean and jerk, culminating in a total of 267 kg.

Wang’s performance highlights her consistent excellence on the international stage, positioning her as a strong contender in upcoming competitions. Despite stiff competition, her achievements in Phuket add to China’s impressive track record in weightlifting.

Another standout athlete from China, Liang Xiaomei, who currently holds the world records in both the clean and jerk and total weight for this category, faced challenges after sustaining a waist injury. This setback resulted in a seventh-place finish in this round. Nevertheless, Liang remains a key figure in the sport, leading the qualifying standings for the Paris Olympics with an outstanding total weight of 284 kg.

The IWF World Cup serves as a crucial platform for athletes to showcase their skills and prepare for the Olympic Games. China’s strong performance underscores the nation’s dedication to excellence in weightlifting and its role in shaping the future of the sport.
