Abdusalam Abdurexit Named CBA MVP as Xinjiang Soars to Runner-Up

In a remarkable turnaround, Xinjiang Flying Tigers forward Abdusalam Abdurexit has been honored with the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the 2023-24 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) regular season.

Abdusalam secured the MVP title with an impressive 471 points, including 65 first-place votes from media representatives. His consistent performance throughout the season was pivotal in elevating Xinjiang from a 17th place finish last year to clinching the runner-up position this campaign.

Over the course of the 52-game regular season, Abdusalam showcased his versatility by averaging 19 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game, starting in 51 of those matches. His leadership on the court has been instrumental in Xinjiang's stellar performance.

Complementing Abdusalam's achievements, Xinjiang's head coach Qiu Biao was also recognized as the Coach of the Year, highlighting the team's overall strategic excellence.

The season also saw Jared Sullinger of the Shenzhen Aviators earning the Best Foreign Player award with averages of 21.8 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. Additionally, Yang Hansen of the Qingdao Eagles secured both the Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors.

Other standout performers include Wu Qian from the Zhejiang Golden Bulls, who took home the Sixth Man of the Year award, and Li Hongquan of the Shanghai Sharks, who was named the Most Improved Player.
