Xinjiang Flying Tigers' forward Abdusalam Abdurexit has clinched the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the 2023-24 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) regular season, marking a standout performance in one of Asia's premier basketball leagues.
Accruing 471 points in the voting process, Abdusalam secured 65 out of 145 first-place votes from media representatives, solidifying his position as the league’s top individual performer. Demonstrating remarkable consistency, he played all 52 regular-season games, initiating 51 of them, and maintained impressive averages of 19 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game.
Abdusalam's leadership was pivotal in propelling the Xinjiang Flying Tigers from a 17th place finish last season to an impressive runner-up position this year. His contributions on the court have not only elevated the team's performance but also earned him the highest personal accolade in the CBA.
In addition to Abdusalam’s MVP honor, Xinjiang’s head coach, Qiu Biao, was recognized as Coach of the Year for his exceptional guidance and strategic acumen throughout the season.
The Shenzhen Aviators’ Jared Sullinger also received accolades, earning the Best Foreign Player award with an average of 21.8 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. Yang Hansen of the Qingdao Eagles made history by being named both Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, showcasing his versatility and defensive prowess.
Further honors went to Wu Qian of the Zhejiang Golden Bulls, who was awarded Sixth Man of the Year, and Shanghai Sharks sophomore forward Li Hongquan, who was celebrated as the Most Improved Player, recognizing his significant development over the season.
