Manchester United Targets Southampton Director Jason Wilcox

Manchester United has set its sights on Southampton's director of football, Jason Wilcox, as part of the club's ongoing efforts to enhance its recruitment team.

According to ESPN, United formally approached Wilcox on Monday. The \"Red Devils\" have been actively reshaping their recruitment department since Sir Jim Ratcliffe joined the club as a minority owner in February.

In a strategic move, United recently secured Omar Berrada, the former chief football operations officer of Manchester City, as their new CEO. Wilcox, who collaborated with Berrada during his tenure at City, departed in the summer of 2023.

Southampton, currently competing in the EFL Championship, has agreed to the compensation terms offered by United. However, the timing isn't ideal for Southampton, who are in the midst of a tight race for promotion to the Premier League. The club currently sits in fourth place with 74 points after 38 games, trailing third-placed Leicester City by 11 points, with Leicester having played 39 games.

The potential departure of Wilcox could impact Southampton's ambitious campaign for promotion as they look to strengthen their squad amidst the fierce competition.
