Nothing instills more fear than a cornered wild beast, and the same could be said for Tokyo Olympic champion Hou Zhihui.
After a series of underwhelming performances during the qualifying stages for the Paris Games, Hou Zhihui, the 27-year-old Chinese weightlifter, faced the threat of missing her Olympic dreams. However, she rose from the ashes with an inspiring performance at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Cup on Monday.
Demonstrating sheer willpower and resilience, Hou shattered the world record in the women's 49 kg category by lifting an astounding 97 kg in the snatch. Following her incredible feat, the DPRK's Ri Song Gum matched the record, highlighting the intense competition. This remarkable achievement not only secures Hou a spot in the upcoming Paris Olympics but also establishes her as a strong contender for a second consecutive Olympic gold medal.
