Beijing’s Olympic Venues Stay Active Year-Round with Speed Skating Championships

With the arrival of spring and daily temperatures reaching a pleasant 20 degrees Celsius, Beijing is transitioning from a bustling winter sports season to a vibrant new chapter. However, the city's Winter Olympic venues are far from resting on their laurels.

This week, China's National Speed Skating Championships kicked off at the National Speed Skating Oval, affectionately known as the \"Ice Ribbon.\" The event showcased over 80 elite athletes from across the country, competing fiercely in pursuit of excellence.

Alemasi Kahanbai, representing the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, shared his excitement: \"The competition is a test for my training. I could still feel the atmosphere of the Winter Olympics when I entered the Ice Ribbon. My goal is to achieve my best at the Asian Winter Games next year and the 2026 Winter Olympics.\"

At just 26 years old, Kahanbai emphasized the rapid improvement of young skaters, stating, \"More youth skaters have improved rapidly to become a force at the senior level, heralding a promising future for China's speed skating.\"
