Jordan Airstrikes Hit Suspected Drug Networks in Sweida

On December 24, 2025, Jordan carried out a series of airstrikes in southern Syria’s Sweida province, striking sites believed to be used by drug smuggling networks near its northern border.

Syrian state-run Ikhbariya TV reported that the raids destroyed drug storage locations, a weapons facility run by armed smuggling gangs, and a former Syrian army outpost recently repurposed for narcotics storage.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights noted multiple strikes across border areas and observed intensive aircraft activity late Wednesday.

In an official statement, the Jordanian Armed Forces said it had neutralized several arms and drug traffickers along the northern border and targeted factories and workshops used as hideouts for cross-border smuggling operations into Jordan.

In recent years, Jordan has intensified military operations along its northern frontier—many executed by drones—citing a rise in threats from drug and weapons trafficking networks.
