On Sunday, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the shooting at the Chanukah By the Sea celebration on Bondi Beach as a "devastating terrorist incident." Held on the first day of Hanukkah, the event should have been a time of joy and faith for Jewish Australians.
Speaking at a press conference, Albanese condemned the attack: "This is a targeted attack on Jewish Australians on the first day of Hanukkah, which should be a day of joy, a celebration of faith. It is an act of evil antisemitism, terrorism that has struck the heart of our nation."
He underscored that violence against one community is an attack on all Australians. "There is no place for this hate, violence and terrorism in our nation," he stated. "Let me be clear: we will eradicate it."
