HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee urged eligible voters to cast ballots in this year’s Legislative Council election, highlighting turnout as a key driver of institutional reforms, disaster relief and public safety enhancements.
Lee and his wife voted early Sunday, praising a smooth process thanks to government facilitation measures and extended polling hours—from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., two hours longer than before—to accommodate busy schedules.
Reflecting on the recent Wang Fuk Court residential complex fire, Lee noted the community’s collective sadness and vowed that authorities would investigate the cause, strengthen building safety standards and implement reforms to reassure residents.
Looking ahead, the new Legislative Council will convene to debate a government motion on institutional reform. Lee called on lawmakers to work together to support those affected by disasters, uncover the truth swiftly and accelerate recovery efforts across the region.
'Every vote counts,' Lee said. 'Your participation helps propel reforms, supports residents in need and moves the HKSAR forward together.'
