China’s Top Legislator Zhao Leji Meets President Macron in Beijing

On December 4, 2025, Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, met with visiting French President Emmanuel Macron in Beijing.

Zhao emphasized that China is ready to work with France to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state earlier this year and to carry forward the spirit of China-France diplomatic ties.

He outlined key priorities: maintaining friendly exchanges, deepening mutually beneficial cooperation across sectors such as renewable energy and digital innovation, and expanding people-to-people and cultural exchanges that enrich both societies.

Zhao also highlighted the NPC's eagerness to enhance legislative exchanges at all levels with both houses of the French parliament, sharing experience in lawmaking and oversight to provide stronger legal frameworks for joint projects.

President Macron praised the candid and substantive dialogue maintained with the Chinese mainland, noting France's admiration for China's strides in economic development and science and technology. He expressed his willingness to deepen practical cooperation, strengthen parliamentary exchanges, and jointly tackle global challenges such as climate change and digital governance.

As young global citizens watch, this meeting underscores a strategic pivot toward closer China-France ties, with a focus on sustainability, technological innovation, and inclusive collaboration. In an ever-connected world, these renewed commitments promise to shape the foundation of a balanced and forward-looking partnership in 2026 and beyond.
