Chinese President Xi Jinping wrapped up his trip to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and flew back to Beijing on Thursday, following events marking the region's 70th anniversary.
In Urumqi, the regional capital, Xi was greeted by residents from various ethnic groups who lined the streets waving red flags and smiling as he passed by. At Urumqi Tianshan International Airport, local dancers performed a joyful send-off.
On Xi's instructions, a central delegation led by Wang Huning will remain in the region from Thursday through Sunday, visiting key sites and conveying greetings to residents from all sectors of society.
Senior official Cai Qi and other members of Xi's entourage accompanied him on the flight back to Beijing.
With this milestone celebration, the central leadership reiterates its commitment to engaging with Xinjiang’s diverse communities and marks seven decades of the region’s governance under the current administrative framework.
