DPRK Warns U.S. ‘Golden Dome’ Space Shield Could Ignite Orbit Arms Race

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Monday blasted the U.S. plan to build a Golden Dome missile defense network, calling it "very dangerous" and warning it could pave the way for a nuclear conflict in space. Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled details of the $175 billion initiative, which aims to deploy space-based interceptors within three years to shield against ballistic, hypersonic and cruise missiles.

In a scathing memorandum, the DPRK accused the U.S. of using the Golden Dome as "a typical product of 'America first,'" charging that the program's true goal is to cement U.S. military dominance and enable offensive operations with allied forces integrated into a unified missile shield.

"This is a preemptive step toward an outer space-based war scenario supporting the U.S. strategy for uni-polar domination," the memorandum stated, adding that the plan threatens to destabilize global security and accelerate the militarization of space.

Analysts say the initiative could trigger an arms race beyond Earth's atmosphere. With rival states racing to counter each other's technological edge, experts warn that rules of engagement—up to now governed by treaties restricting weapons in orbit—may come under renewed strain.

For young global citizens, this standoff highlights how advanced defense projects can reshape geopolitics and inspire fresh debates on space governance. Stakeholders from entrepreneurs to activists are watching closely: will the Golden Dome spark cooperation on space security, or rule the next frontier of rivalry?
