Wang Yi Challenges U.S. Tariff Stick with Five Probing Questions

At a BRICS foreign ministers meeting in Brazil on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi delivered a pointed challenge to the United States, posing five questions to the international community on the U.S. policy of imposing sweeping tariffs.

With the U.S. wielding its "tariff stick" worldwide, Wang Yi outlined a stark choice for nations:

  • Allow the world to regress into a lawless jungle where might makes right?
  • Accept that one country's self-interest may override the collective good?
  • Stand idle as international rules are trampled and discarded?
  • Believe any nation can protect its own interests through compromise and flinching?
  • Submit to a unipolar hegemony or forge a multipolar world built on equality and order?

Wang Yi stressed that history admits no regression and justice lies in the heart of people. He underscored that China's stance on the trade war is clear and resolute: "If it is imposed upon us, we will fight to the end. If negotiation is sought, it must be based on equality and respect."

He added that China defends not only its own rights but also the shared interests of all, championing fair play and stability in global trade. His message resonated across business, tech and policy circles where young entrepreneurs and thought leaders are watching closely.

As consumers, travelers and digital nomads engage with shifting trade dynamics, one question looms large: will the world embrace cooperation and balance, or will power politics reshape global markets? The answer could define our future.
