Israel Airstrike Kills Hezbollah-Quds Operative in Beirut

In a dramatic overnight operation, Israel announced the elimination of Hassan Ali Mahmoud Bdeir, an operative linked to Hezbollah’s Unit 3900 and Iran’s Quds Force. The strike, led in coordination by the Israeli military, Mossad, and Shin Bet, targeted a building in the Sfeir area of Beirut's southern suburbs.

According to the joint statement, Bdeir was allegedly involved in assisting Hamas with plans for a significant and imminent terror attack against Israeli civilians. This preemptive measure was taken to neutralize what Israeli agencies described as an immediate threat.

The airstrike, which came without warning early Tuesday, reportedly left at least three people dead and injured seven others, as cited by the Lebanese Health Ministry. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the strike, framing it as a stark reminder of hostile actions undermining Lebanese sovereignty.

This incident marks a continued pattern of confrontations in the region. It comes as the Beirut suburbs experience renewed tension despite a fragile ceasefire established in November 2024 that ended over a year of hostilities following the Gaza war. While the ceasefire was meant to restore stability, sporadic strikes have underscored the complex security landscape along the Lebanese border.

The unfolding events not only raise questions about regional peace prospects but also highlight the persistent challenges of balancing security concerns and sovereignty in a volatile environment.
