Trump Promotes U.S. Annexation of Greenland Amid Visit Controversy

U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his suggestion that the United States may one day take over Greenland, emphasizing the island's strategic importance for national security. This remark comes as a high-profile U.S. delegation gears up for an official visit to the semi-autonomous Danish territory.

The visit, scheduled from Thursday to Saturday, will be led by Usha Vance and will include key figures such as White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright. The delegation is set to tour an American military base and attend a local dog sled race—an event seen by some as both symbolic and provocative.

Greenland's outgoing Prime Minister Mute Egede sharply criticized the planned trip, calling it a "provocation" and stressed that his caretaker government would not meet with the group. Egede urged Greenland's allies to make a clear statement to support the island's right to self-determination.

In his comments, Trump added, "they're calling us, we're not calling them," fueling further debate about U.S. intentions. This statement follows an earlier private visit to Greenland by Trump’s eldest son, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the developing narrative.

As the visit and rhetoric draw international attention, the unfolding story highlights the delicate balance between national ambition and respect for self-determination in a globally connected era.
