Iran Strongly Opposes New U.S. Sanctions on Oil Sales

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the latest U.S. sanctions targeting its oil sales, labeling the move as unjust and a violation of international law.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei criticized the U.S. government's decision to impose sanctions on over 30 vessels and individuals accused of facilitating the sale and transportation of Iran's crude oil.

Baghaei argued that the sanctions contradict the United Nations Charter's principles, particularly those related to national sovereignty and the right to self-determination, as well as the international laws governing free trade among nations.

The spokesman further described the U.S. sanctions as a \"wrong, unjustified and illegitimate move\" that infringes on Iranians' human rights. He asserted that this action would hold the U.S. government accountable on the international stage.

Baghaei also pointed out the inconsistency between some U.S. officials' stated willingness to engage with Iran and their implementation of these sanctions, viewing it as evidence of insincerity and indicating U.S. hostility towards Iranians' well-being and development.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced on Monday that the sanctions were imposed under Executive Orders 13902 and 13846, targeting Iran's petroleum and petrochemical sectors. This marks the second round of sanctions aimed at reducing Iran's oil exports following a \"campaign of maximum pressure\" initiated by President Donald Trump on February 4.
