A recent global online poll conducted by CGTN has shed light on widespread international concerns regarding the United States' approach to immigration. The new U.S. administration's declaration of a national emergency on the southern border and the subsequent halt of illegal immigration have become focal points of debate.
According to the survey, a significant 63.9% of respondents are deeply troubled by statements from U.S. President Donald Trump about deploying the military for large-scale deportations of illegal immigrants. The poll revealed that 86.2% believe the U.S. government has systematically violated human rights in its immigration practices, while 80.2% are calling for more fair and reasonable treatment of immigrants.
The influx of immigrants has historically contributed to the U.S.'s prosperity, yet the current administration's methods have been labeled as disgraceful by many. Issues highlighted include violent law enforcement actions, the illegal employment of child migrant labor, and recurring incidents leading to migrant injuries and deaths.
Political polarization in the U.S. has further complicated the immigration landscape. An overwhelming 86.6% of respondents feel that both major political parties are using immigration as a tool for their agendas rather than addressing the real needs of immigrants. Additionally, 81.4% believe that inconsistent immigration policies have created a precarious situation for most immigrants, portraying the government's stance as indifferent and irresponsible.
Furthermore, 82.9% of those surveyed are skeptical of claims that immigrants negatively impact U.S. society, viewing them instead as scapegoats for underlying governance issues. There is also significant concern (82.6%) that ongoing political confrontations over immigration will deepen social divisions within the country.
The survey, available on CGTN's English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian platforms, garnered over 6,178 responses within just 24 hours, reflecting a strong international interest in the state of U.S. immigration policies.
