Houthis Launch Fifth Attack on U.S. Aircraft Carrier in Red Sea

In a significant escalation of tensions in the Red Sea, Yemen's Houthi group announced a new missile and drone attack against the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier. According to Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea, the attack, which spanned nine hours, marked the fifth time the vessel has been targeted since its deployment to the Red Sea.

Speaking on al-Masirah TV, Sarea stated, \"The operation achieved its goals successfully and forced the aircraft carrier to leave the theater of operations and flee to the far north of the Red Sea.\" This latest assault is part of the Houthis' broader strategy to support Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and retaliate against recent U.S.-British-Israeli air strikes on Houthi positions in northern Yemen.

Last Friday, a coordinated air assault by Israel and the U.S.-led naval coalition targeted key infrastructure in Sanaa, Amran province, and the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah. The offensive resulted in one death and nine injuries, highlighting the escalating conflict in the region.

Since late 2014, the Houthis have maintained control over much of northern Yemen, effectively ousting the internationally recognized Yemeni government from the capital, Sanaa. Their campaign has intensified since November 2023, with increased rocket and drone attacks aimed at Israel and disruptions to Israeli-linked shipping routes in the Red Sea.

In response to Houthi aggression, the U.S.-led naval coalition has been conducting regular air raids on Houthi sites since January 2024, aiming to deter further attacks. This ongoing conflict underscores the fragile security situation in the Red Sea, a vital maritime corridor for global trade.
