Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Secretary-General Zhang Ming and the newly appointed SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev in Beijing on Friday. During the meeting, Wang emphasized that China will continue to provide support and facilitate the work of the Secretariat under Yermekbayev's leadership.
Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, commended Zhang Ming for his outstanding contributions to the SCO's development and extended his congratulations to Yermekbayev on his new role.
Reflecting on the past three years, Wang highlighted the SCO's significant advancements in cooperation and growth, crediting the leadership of member states and their collective efforts. With China currently holding the rotating presidency of the SCO, Wang assured that the nation is committed to advancing the organization's initiatives.
He expressed confidence in the SCO's future, envisioning it as a stabilizing force in the international order, a reliable source of prosperity for member states, and a harmonious home for people in the region.
Zhang Ming noted the Secretariat's accomplishments over the last three years, attributing success to the trust and support of member states and China. He highlighted the promotion of practical cooperation across various fields, the enhancement of the organization's international influence, and the fostering of a community with a shared future.
Yermekbayev praised China's leading role in the SCO and pledged to fully support the Chinese presidency. He also committed to working collaboratively to prepare for the upcoming SCO summit next year.
