Trump Appoints Keith Kellogg as Special Envoy to Tackle Ukraine-Russia Conflict

In a strategic move, former U.S. President Donald Trump has named Keith Kellogg, a retired Army lieutenant general, as the special envoy for Ukraine and Russia. Kellogg, who held several key national security positions during Trump's first term, is expected to play a pivotal role in resolving the ongoing conflict between Kyiv and Moscow.

Trump announced the nomination on his social media platform, Truth Social, highlighting Kellogg's distinguished military and business career. Kellogg previously served as the acting national security advisor for a brief period in early 2017 and later as the executive secretary and chief of staff of the National Security Council. His extensive experience positions him well for this challenging role.

According to an exclusive Reuters report from June, Kellogg co-drafted a comprehensive plan to end the Russia-Ukraine war alongside Fred Fleitz, another former chief of staff at the National Security Council. The proposed strategy emphasizes bringing both Kyiv and Moscow to the negotiation table. A key component of the plan is making U.S. military support contingent upon Ukraine's willingness to engage in peace talks.

The plan also includes a stern warning to Moscow: refusal to negotiate will result in increased U.S. support for Ukraine. Additionally, it envisions a ceasefire that would freeze current battle lines, creating a conducive environment for peace discussions. Notably, Ukraine's potential NATO membership is excluded from immediate negotiations, allowing for a focused approach to peace.

During the presidential election, Trump assured voters of his ability to swiftly mediate peace between the warring nations, even claiming he could achieve it within a day if re-elected. With Kellogg now in the envoy position, the administration appears poised to pursue these ambitious peace efforts.
