China’s Top Legislator Zhao Leji Visits Portugal to Strengthen Ties

In a significant move to bolster international relations, Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, embarked on an official goodwill visit to Portugal from Thursday to Saturday. During his three-day stay, Zhao engaged in high-level meetings with key Portuguese leaders, including President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, and Portuguese Parliament Speaker Jose Pedro Aguiar-Branco.

Zhao conveyed best wishes from Chinese President Xi Jinping and emphasized the deepening comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. Under the guidance of their respective leaders, China and Portugal have made steady progress in Belt and Road initiatives, while also fostering rich cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

Highlighting Portugal's steadfast commitment to the one-China principle, Zhao expressed China's willingness to continue building relations based on mutual respect and equality. He envisioned a future where China and Portugal not only act as reliable partners for common development but also as close companions in the mutual learning of civilizations.
