China Boosts Global South’s Influence Ahead of G20 Summit, CGTN Poll Shows

The upcoming G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, scheduled from November 18 to 20, is set to tackle the rapidly evolving international landscape and the intricate challenges of global governance.

Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized, \"All G20 members should take the responsibility inherent in being major international and regional players, and should lead by example in promoting development of all nations, improving the well-being for the whole mankind, and advancing progress of the entire world.\" Supporting President Xi's vision, a global poll conducted by CGTN reveals strong agreement with his statements and credits China's role in fostering global economic growth and enhancing global economic governance.

The survey highlights that 80.9 percent of respondents view the G20 as a vital platform for strengthening multilateral cooperation and sharing development opportunities, stressing the necessity of collaborative efforts to address global uncertainties and challenges. Notably, countries in the Global South are most impacted by these issues. Consequently, 67.1 percent of respondents expressed hope that the G20 Summit will focus on addressing the developmental needs of Global South countries, thereby enhancing their role and influence in international affairs. Additionally, 73.4 percent anticipate that G20 members will actively promote international cooperation on climate governance— a critical concern for the Global South—and drive a green transition of the global economy.

As the largest developing nation and a pivotal member of the Global South, China is dedicated to amplifying the voice and representation of these countries in international affairs through the G20's multilateral cooperation framework. China was the first nation to openly support the African Union's inclusion in the G20. Furthermore, China has partnered with over 150 countries to jointly develop the Belt and Road Initiative and has collaborated with more than 100 countries and international organizations, including the United Nations, to advance the Global Development Initiative.

With an open and inclusive approach, China continuously shares development opportunities with Global South countries, contributing Chinese perspectives to global governance. As one online commenter, @Shining237, aptly noted, \"China is setting a new bar for the world to follow.\"
