Xi Jinping Calls for High-Quality BRICS Cooperation at 16th Summit

At the 16th BRICS Summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of high-quality development within the BRICS framework. Speaking to an audience of global leaders, Xi highlighted the group's commitment to fostering deeper cooperation and expanding its influence on the world stage.

Xi lauded the summit's decision to invite several nations as partner countries, marking a significant step in BRICS' evolution. He envisions BRICS as a pivotal platform for solidarity and collaboration for the Global South, aiming to be a leading force in the reform of global governance.

Underlining the theme of peace, Xi urged BRICS members to adhere to principles that prevent the expansion of battlefields, escalation of conflicts, and provocations by any party. He called for collective efforts to de-escalate the Ukraine crisis swiftly.

Innovation and sustainability were also key topics. Xi encouraged BRICS nations to pioneer high-quality development and invest in green industries, clean energy, and sustainable minerals. China expressed its willingness to leverage its strengths to enhance cooperation in these areas.

On justice and global governance, Xi advocated for BRICS to lead the transformation of the international financial architecture, strengthening institutions like the New Development Bank. He stressed the need for BRICS to represent the interests of developing countries more effectively and to expand its membership to amplify its voice in global affairs.

Promoting peaceful coexistence and cultural harmony, Xi announced China's plan to establish 10 overseas learning centers in BRICS countries over the next five years. These centers aim to provide training opportunities for education administrators, teachers, and students, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration.

Leaders at the summit praised BRICS for its role in addressing global challenges and pledged to uphold multilateralism. They reiterated their support for the United Nations in global governance initiatives, including the regulation of artificial intelligence.

The summit concluded with a declaration establishing BRICS partner countries, reinforcing the group's dedication to unity, cooperation, and sustainable global development.
