China and Iran Strengthen Strategic Partnership at BRICS Summit

At the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russian Federation, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian underscored the importance of enhancing China-Iran relations. Xi expressed China's commitment to deepening exchanges and cooperation across various sectors, aiming to foster a stable and sound comprehensive strategic partnership that benefits both nations.

During their meeting, President Xi emphasized China's support for Iran's national sovereignty and security, highlighting the importance of non-interference in internal affairs and the mutual safeguarding of each country's legitimate interests. He reiterated China's readiness to collaborate with Iran on multiple fronts, including economic and social development, to ensure the sustained growth of their strategic alliance.

A key highlight of the summit was China's warm welcome of Iran's first-time full membership in BRICS. President Xi underlined China's willingness to strengthen cooperation with Iran within BRICS and other multilateral frameworks, aiming to amplify the influence of the Global South and advance a more just and reasonable international order.

Iranian President Pezeshkian praised China as Iran's most crucial partner, noting the robust development of their comprehensive strategic partnership. He expressed Iran's enthusiasm to work alongside China to implement joint cooperation plans, particularly in connectivity, infrastructure, and clean energy. Pezeshkian also highlighted the role of their partnership in contributing to regional peace and stability.

Both leaders discussed the current situation in the Middle East, with President Xi expressing deep concern over the ongoing conflict and the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza to alleviate regional tensions. He called for collective international efforts to implement UN Security Council resolutions and prevent further instability in the region.
