China Opposes US and Canada Naval Transits Through Taiwan Straits

China has firmly opposed what it considers provocations and threats to its sovereignty and security under the pretext of freedom of navigation. In a press briefing on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian addressed concerns regarding the recent transit of the U.S. destroyer Higgins and the Canadian frigate Vancouver through the Taiwan Straits.

Lin emphasized that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, asserting that the Taiwan question is fundamentally about China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, rather than an issue of freedom of navigation.

The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army responded to the transits, reiterating China's stance on maintaining its territorial claims and ensuring the security of the region.
