SCO Leaders Unite Against Protectionism and Unilateral Sanctions

During the 23rd Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), member states united in their stance against protectionist measures, unilateral sanctions, and trade restrictions. The leaders emphasized that such actions undermine the multilateral trading system and pose significant obstacles to global sustainable development.

In their joint communique, SCO delegations highlighted that unilateral sanctions not only violate international law but also harm the interests of other nations and disrupt international economic relations. They called for leveraging the collective potential of regional countries, international organizations, and multilateral mechanisms to foster a broad, open, and mutually beneficial cooperative space within the SCO region.

Furthermore, the member states underscored the importance of working together to oppose trade protectionism, which contravenes the rules and principles of the World Trade Organization (WTO). They reiterated their commitment to consolidating a non-discriminatory, open, fair, inclusive, and transparent multilateral trading system grounded in WTO rules and principles.
