China has formally called on the United States to refrain from sending any misleading signals to forces advocating for Taiwan independence. In a recent statement, Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, emphasized the importance of adhering to the one-China principle and the three joint communiques between China and the U.S. to ensure peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits.
In response to comments from the U.S. State Department regarding the Chinese People's Liberation Army's (PLA) \"Joint Sword-2024B\" drills, Mao Ning reiterated that the U.S. should honor its commitment to not support Taiwan independence. She urged Washington to cease arming Taiwan and to stop sending erroneous signals to separatist elements advocating for independence.
The Eastern Theater Command of the PLA recently conducted comprehensive military exercises, known as \"Joint Sword-2024B,\" encompassing the army, navy, air force, and rocket force. These drills were staged around the Taiwan region, including the north, south, and east of the island.
The PLA emphasized that these exercises serve as a strong deterrent against separatist activities and are both legitimate and necessary to safeguard national sovereignty and unity. Mao Ning further stated that peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits are essential for regional prosperity and that Taiwan remains an integral part of China, asserting that the Taiwan question is an internal matter with no room for foreign interference.
China remains committed to maintaining regional peace and stability, a stance that is evident to neighboring countries. Any provocations from Taiwan independence forces are expected to be met with appropriate countermeasures, Mao Ning concluded.
