During a daily press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning reiterated that the concept of One-China is a consensus of the international community. She emphasized that no actions or statements by Taiwan authorities can alter the fact that both sides of the Taiwan Straits belong to one and the same China.
Mao responded to remarks made by the leader of the Taiwan region, Lai Ching-te, accusing him of attempting to sever historical connections between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits. She criticized Lai for promoting the \\"Taiwan independence\\" narrative, including statements like \\"China and Taiwan are not subordinate to each other\\" and \\"Taiwan has sovereignty.\\"
The spokesperson highlighted that Taiwan has never been, and will never be, a separate country, denying any sovereignty claims. Mao stated that the One-China principle is a fundamental norm in international relations and reflected the prevailing international consensus. She asserted that the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China.
Mao also emphasized China's opposition to any forms of official interactions between Taiwan and countries with diplomatic relations with China. She called on foreign politicians visiting Taiwan to cease meddling in China's internal affairs and stop supporting \\"Taiwan independence\\", which heightens tensions in the Taiwan Straits.
