The Chinese mainland has voiced strong opposition to the recent United States military aid package approved for the Taiwan region. In a press conference on Monday, Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, criticized the U.S. for what he described as a serious violation of the one-China principle and the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques, particularly referencing the August 17 Communique.
Lin emphasized that the U.S. actions embolden Lai Ching-te and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in their pursuit of \"Taiwan independence,\" undermining cross-strait stability. He asserted that the support from external forces, led by the U.S., poses the greatest threat to peace in the Taiwan Strait and disrupts the current status quo.
The spokesperson warned that persistent U.S. military support for Taiwan independence could lead to dire consequences for the United States itself. Lin urged the U.S. to adhere earnestly to the one-China principle and cease all forms of arming the Taiwan region.
He concluded by reaffirming China's firm resolve to oppose any separatist activities and to safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, regardless of the level of military support provided to Taiwan.
