The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' move towards \"militarization\" is unlikely to enhance the security of the Taiwan region. Instead, it may escalate the risks of conflict, according to a spokesperson from the Chinese mainland.
Chen Binhua, representing the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, emphasized Beijing's strong opposition to any military engagements involving the U.S. and Taiwan authorities. This statement comes in the wake of the U.S. approving $567 million in military aid to Taiwan.
Chen highlighted that the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques contain serious commitments regarding the Taiwan question. However, he criticized the U.S. for its actions, which he claims are encouraging reckless moves towards \"Taiwan independence,\" thereby undermining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
He urged the United States to sincerely adhere to the one-China principle and honor the three joint communiques. Chen called for an immediate halt to arming Taiwan and stopping the sending of any misleading signals to forces advocating for Taiwan independence.
Furthermore, Chen asserted that no amount of weapons provided by the U.S. to the DPP authorities would deter Beijing's unwavering determination to achieve national reunification.
