China Honors Heroes and International Friends Ahead of National Day

In a grand ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China celebrated its 75th anniversary by honoring 15 distinguished individuals with national medals and honorary titles.

Among the recipients was 93-year-old Huang Zongde, who enlisted in the Chinese People’s Liberation Army at 17 and dedicated nearly four decades to military service, earning numerous accolades for his bravery and devotion.

Other notable honorees include Wang Yongzhi, a missile and rocket expert pivotal to China's manned space program; Wang Zhenyi, a medical scientist renowned for breakthroughs in leukemia treatment; and Li Zhensheng, a wheat breeding expert. Additionally, ten individuals from diverse fields such as science, border patrol, arts, craftsmanship, education, healthcare, economics, and athletics received national honorary titles.

Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of learning from heroes and role models to build a strong, modern socialist country. He encouraged citizens to strive for excellence in their roles to contribute to national development and social harmony.

Highlighting international friendships, China awarded the Friendship Medal to Dilma Rousseff, former president of Brazil and current president of the New Development Bank. Rousseff was recognized for fostering strong ties between China and Brazil, enhancing cooperation among BRICS nations.

Accepting the honor, Rousseff affirmed her commitment to strengthening Brazil-China relations and recognized China’s remarkable economic and technological advancements as a global inspiration.

President Xi reiterated China's dedication to collaborating with international friends to maintain world peace, promote shared development, and build a community with a shared future for humanity.
